For a number of years, the Acton Institute has been holding a three day conference for Catholic Bishops from all continents in order to discuss a range of themes of mutual concern to bishops from across the globe.

In recent years, the themes have included subjects such as Catholic social teaching, the financial crisis, bioethics, religious liberty, and the problem of corruption, to name just a few.

In 2016, the theme of the conference, held in Lisbon - Portugal - on Friday 22 January, for about 75 Catholic Bishops, was Globalization: Encounters, Possibilities, and Trials for the Church in the 21st Century.

Cardinal Turkson spoke on “Catholicism and the Environment: Reflections on the New Environmental Encyclical”. [The text in English]
